Vasoconstriction produced in the iris-ciliary body of the cat eye by stimulation of local ganglion-like receptors.

چکیده
The presence of local ganglion-like receptors in the anterior segment of the cat eye was demonstrated in an isolated, arterially perfused preparation. The administration of the known ganglionic stimulants, acetylcholine (Ach) plus eserine, pilocarpine, and dimethylphenylpiperazinium bromide (DMPP) produced a vasconstriction. The actions of these stimulants were abolished by a-adrenergic blockade. Hexamethonium completely blocked the response to DMPP, was always ineffective as a blocking agent against Ach plus eserine, and sometimes abolished the response of pilocarpine. High concentrations of atropine always blocked the response to the three stimulant drugs. The data presented are also compatible with the currently accepted hypothesis of dual excitatory receptor sites on sympathetic ganglia.

Purpose: To report a rare presentation of ophthalmic tuberculosis. Case Report: A 19-year-old man was referred to the glaucoma clinic due to multiple attacks of increased intraocular pressure (IOP) in his right eye. IOP of the right eye was 50 mmHg, and glaucomatous damage of the optic nerve was present. In gonioscopy, an oval-black lesion was present in the ciliary body band on the temporal si...

متن کاملHistoanatomical study of the lens and ciliary body in ostrich eye
In the present study, the lenses and ciliary bodies of 20 ostrich eyes were studied macroscopically and microscopically. The histological slides were studied after staining by hematoxylin and eosin, Verhoeff, Van Gieson, and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS). Posterior surface of lens was more convex than its anterior surface. The average lens diameter and thickness were respectively measured as 1.43 ...
متن کاملIdentification of A and B forms of monoamine oxidase in the iris-ciliary body, superior cervical ganglion, and pineal gland of albino rabbits.
The properties of monoamine oxidase activity in homogenates of the iris-ciliary body, superior cervical ganglion, and pineal gland of albino rabbits have been studied. Inhibition curves using specific inhibitors support the concept of A and B enzyme forms, with the following ratios of A/B activity: iris-ciliary body, 40/60; superior cervical ganglion, 90/10; pineal gland, 13/87. Experiments on ...
متن کاملParasympathetic, sympathetic, and sensory interactions in the iris: nerve growth factor regulates cholinergic ciliary ganglion innervation in vivo.
Interactions between peptidergic sensory nerves, noradrenergic sympathetic nerves, and cholinergic parasympathetic fibers were examined in the rat iris. The putative peptide neurotransmitter, substance P (SP), was used as an index of the trigeminal sensory innervation, tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) activity served to monitor the sympathetic fibers, and choline acetyltransferase (CAT) activity was u...
